Location Scout

This week I have just come back from scouting locations and feel that I have found some excellent places of interest. I feel that I have looked at areas

That will offer stunning visual aesthetics to my show but also found some areas where there is a lot of deep interesting history in villages and communities. I visited St Agnes Village on the north coast of Cornwall where I was over come with the beauty and picturesque scenery. I found that the village had a rich history of mining and also home to a number of failed fishing and export harbors spanning over centuries of the community. On top of this I discovered the local tourism offered a wide range of activities that I could possibly feature within the course of the show such as kayaking, surfing, horse riding and bike riding. I think this would be a good feature as filler between longer segments. A place I visited that I thought would really highlight how beautiful and appealing the British coast is Chapel Porth mine. I believe this location has lots of history and is also visually stunning so would be a great feature piece on the show. After being able to go to where I intend to film and have a look at these locations first hand I feel that I now am able to start structuring a strong script around.

Week 2

This week my time and focuses have been taken re directed due to a family illness and therefor I haven’t accomplished as much as I would of liked to however I have still managed to complete some tasks on my to do list. I began to research possible locations that I plan to go scout out on an arranged trip at a later date. I also researched possible avenues of interest to focus on in the show, mainly around the areas history but also of some of their local industries and ways of life. I want to focus my show on the culture of an area but also highlight the beautiful scenery of the rural areas surrounding the built up communities. Ideally the show should inspire people to want to visit the areas featured in the show for various reasons. Next week I am going to be travelling down to Cornwall to look at some of the places I have researched and also possibly find some others by talking to people in the local community and exploring the surrounding areas.

Intro

Throughout the course of the next few months I will be documenting my progression of my end of year graduate project piece throughout this blog. This week I began my advanced specialist skills seminars, which I came to with my negotiated learning agreement as the basis for my plan. The outline of my project is to create a travel style TV pilot that would air on either channel 4 or the travel channel. It will focus on the British coast looking at individual places history and lifestyle and will be targeted at an older audience.  The focal area that my pilot will be filmed in will be Cornwall as I feel that this has a vast and interesting heritage and is somewhere I have connections allowing me to operate more efficiently. I knew that in order to prepare for filming there were several key things I would need to address first;

-       Find key locations in Cornwall to feature show around
-       Organize the filming schedule and dates of filming
-       Script the necessary scenes within the show
-        Scout out areas to film
-       Arrange any required props

One thing that I already had was someone cast for the part who I felt was young enough to bring an excitable vibe to the show but also well spoken and presented that I believed the target audience would find endearing. This person is Harry Walker. I have already done interviews and spoke to him about the work prior to the start of this blog. I believe that he is a viable strong personality who fits my criteria and will allow for a greater depth to the show. In the week to come I plan to start structuring the script and find potential locations for filming.
